Diesel buy into V&R fashion house
July 24th, 2008
London is a buzz with secretive fey avant-garde Dutch fashion couple Viktor and Rolf; their show at the Barbican Art gallery is drawing in the vapid and pretentious alike. Good timing then to announce that the boss and founder of clothes brand Diesel, a certain Renzo Russo, has bought the major shareholding of their company. That means V&R lines, once only for the malnourished heroin user, will be available to all: ready-to-wear lines, eyewear and jewellery. There is currently only one Viktor & Rolf store in Milan but we can expect boutiques and concession stands to start to pop up. In a statement, the designers said: “We want to develop our fashion house to its full potential. We admire Renzo Rosso’s unconventional nature and the success it has brought him. We decided to join forces with him because his motto ‘Only The Brave’ appeals to us. True creation requires courage.” And money. Please lads: let’s not forget the money.

Solider makes £200k selling booze to his colleagues
July 24th, 2008
No laughing matter, but how’s this for Entrepreneurship: A court has found a British Army finance sergeant made more than £200,000 in just 12 weeks by selling alcohol to his brothers in arms in Iraq. Sergeant Mark McKay, 35, set up his personal “retail facility” in 2003 and was arrested by military police the following year when £100,175 allegedly stolen from an SAS cash office was found hidden in plant pots outside his home in Northern Ireland – “stealing” SAS cash! How big as this man’s balls?! The prosecution says that the astonishing profits Sgt McKay made from his alcohol shop were achieved by buying cases of beer for £10 and selling them on to coalition troops for up to £50. Well, you don’t half get thirsty in the desert…
