One happy community A report has found that parents biggest fear for their daughters is their “addiction” to social networking sites, and the ability for on-line bullying. (my favourite bit too). Its good news too for the first ever social networking forum that aims to promote recovery from record high youth unemployment.  Working with the Jobcentre, the MyA4e Community will host live listings of available jobs, personal development plans and events. Go girls!

Social Networking is Good - Potentially

Twitter Facebook and Myspace oh my! There’s good news on the horizon for my Twittering friends.  If, at this very moment you’re facing your book and my-ing your space you’re more likely to find a job.  Yes, yes it’s true and my good friend Harvey Nash from Work and Pensions has some research showing that a quarter of employers now use social networking sites in the process of recruitment.  Now on one hand this is fantastic news if like me you’re the model facespacer and your profile is recruiter friendly, but if like Johnson you’re facespace is dedicated to documenting your deviancy, you may want to reconsider its content.  Especially as 44% of recruiters believe that social networks will play a larger and larger part in the recruitment process. It’s not all bad news if your MyBook is beyond saving and has become a festering den of sin.  My other good friend Shafiq Lokhanwala, chief executive officer of Nuview Systems has started to warn of the potential legal pitfalls of using social network profiles by employers to influence their recruitment process.  As Shafiq cautions the recruitment industry, a ClickaJob spokesman said “Like it or not, it’s a fact of life that you’re entirely responsible for what you say and do”.  The whole sphere of social networking and recruitment is obviously still very much in its infancy and we’re working the bugs out, but for all those graduates out there it might be worth checking your profile is not open to everyone.

Genius this is. Vodafone will be looking to fill 200 new retail jobs as it announces plans for a further 50 stores across the UK – taking them to 400 stores – starting in Bristol and White City in west London. The design of the stores works hard to lure in lucrative business customers with separate areas to showcase mobile internet and email – well over half a million laptop plug-ins have been sold in the last five months. The high street finally news good it has.

A word in your Ikea

Danish-baiting, flat-pack, hotdog monger Ikea will launch a mobile phone business this week in a tie-up with T-Mobile, who will provide pre-pay services. The new service, Mobile Family is aimed at the 1.4 million people on the Ikea loyalty programme. To kick start the service the firm will give each of its 9,500 employees a mobile phone (which they have to build themselves) and ÂŁ5 credited SIM card. Similar deals have already been carried out at Asda, Tesco and Warephone Carhouse. Its a good way to find new customers: Vodafone has into new territory by launching virtual networks with Lebara Mobile that cater for Britain’s immigrant population - a market worth an estimated ÂŁ500m a year - with cheap international calls to Africa, south-east Asia, India, South America and eastern Europe.

Please remove this image. It is offensive. Where would you work if you wanted to build Apple iPods? Why Wolfson Microelectronics in Edinburgh of course! Or not. The microchip designer has lost its contract to supply components for the iPod. Gutted. Due to non-disclosure agreements, the firm cannot supply parts to an Apple competitor for the rest of this financial year. Double gutted. It will still make parts for the iPhone. The firm also makes parts for the the X-Box, Tom-Tom satellite navigation systems and Samsung handsets. Get your kilt on, get up there and get them back on track! Read original article
