David Langer - 2007 Runner Up

Age: 21
University: Oxford University
Degree: Mathematics

While at university, David created www.clickuni.com, a site that provides a central news and events portal for student clubs and societies. It earned him a nomination for UK young entrepreneur of the year and aims to help students discover and promote their interests and passions. David has also been the president of the university and British league table tennis and the university motor racing club. He now works full time on Click Uni at the Oxford Centre for Innovation.

How did you go about taking your opportunities?
I am an all or nothing kind of person and tend to throw myself into projects. I either completely focus or lose track of the things that I take on.

Do you have any advice to other students wanting to make the most of their time at university?
I would encourage them to experiment early on and to get involved in lots of different things and then decide which of those you care about and enjoy most. Spend more time pursuing these and you are likely to be more fulfilled in your time at University.

What impact have your experiences at university had on you?
I was always a fanatical sports person but that has transferred into being a fanatical entrepreneur. I feel that I have matured a lot, as has my personal philosophy on life. I am better able to identify the things that I am passionate about and I have also developed better leadership and people skills. I did 30 hour course in my second year to train as a peer supporter/student councillor and learnt a lot about myself and how people interact with each other.

Of what achievements are you most proud?
I've stuck to what I’ve believe in what I've done with ClickUni both as an undergraduate and now while I work on the project full time. This is despite reservations from other people. I'm now able to work full time on something that really motivates me and that is something I really care about.
