Naz's Music Business Work Placement

Description:

Last year Naz did a year out as part of his degree, and landed the plum job at EMI records in west London, who have Robbie Williams and Coldplay on their books.

Naz got given a role on the record label Charisma which looks for and nurtures new, unsigned talent, so Naz saw the whole process from signing to getting a record released.

His role at EMI involved digital marketing which is posh way of saying he drummed up a buzz on Facebook and MySpace for the new acts with online campaigns.

Naz got the opportunity thanks to the Brighton Uni Placements office who helped him work up his application (he was already down in the dumps having been refused a placement by Channel 4).

He went through an assessment day interview with 2 psychometric tests all this for a placement! and then he got through to the second interview stage. Naz thinks he did well as a lot of the other applicants knew about the labels acts but hadnt looked into the make up and history of EMI in as much detail. Research paid off.

Since his placement, Nazs attitude to his studies has changed he knows what hard work is! So hes much for productive. He sees uni as a bit of bubble and his advice is to remember that uni life is just 3 or 4 years, then the real world comes knocking, and students need to do everything they can to be prepared for it. Good luck with that!
