The biggest message that were passing on this year to graduating students who have yet to find a job is not to panic. Obviously some of the more traditional graduate recruiters are reducing the number of graduates theyre taking on but lots of companies are still looking to recruit. The best way you can make yourself stand out is to learn to sell yourself in a positive light. One way to do this is to take an area youre particularly interested in and match your skills comprehensively against the skills that are needed for the job so that youll look much more impressive than someone who is just applying on speck. Its also important to have as much work experience and extracurricular activities as possible, but again make sure that they are tailored to the role that you are applying to. You need to really research the industry and the companies that you are applying to and you should start as early as possible when youre applying for jobs. Obviously its important to put as much effort into your exams as possible, but with a little extra work you could get to the head of the job applying queue, instead of waiting until your exams have finished and youre fighting in the graduate free-for-all. When youre applying for jobs dont over expose yourself, dont over apply to jobs just because it sounds like you can do it and dont panic.
