Description:
What is the hidden job market? Its made up of thousands of recruiters that you just dont hear about: perhaps they havent got the time or money to advertise widely, in the national press, or go to career fairs, but they are still excellent and exciting employers of graduates, that offer loads of early responsibility in a career. So, The Times Top 100 do take a huge number of graduates every year, but dont be fooled into thinking they are your only, or indeed best, choice. These SMEs need graduates they are growing and you could be part of that. Often they will be start-ups so theres a little risk there, but so was Facebook 8 years ago, and imagine if you had been one of the first 20 employees there! The best place to find employers in the hidden jobs market is in the local press, websites; word of mouth; business link; the federation of small businesses; and other professional association unique to their sector for instance the Chartered Institute of Marketing will keep a list of members; also talk to recruitment consultants like GRB such firms are free for graduates, and employers only pay when they find the right candidate, so they are used a lot by recruiters on a budget like SMEs. If, as many graduates have, youve found yourself living back home with your parents, dont overlook the employers right on your doorstep go to local business parks, look in the Yellow Pages sorted. And be way more proactive than waiting for them to post a job find the SME, learn about them and approach them. The worst that can happen is they say: not right now. Go for it.
