Description:
The British film industry, like a lot of other industries, is feeling the impact of the recession, but this doesnt mean that there aren't opportunities for filmmakers out there. In fact as the number of big budget films are reduced in favour of micro budget films it provides even more opportunities for graduates and other young film makers to get involved and develop a career in the film industry. People often say that with the film industry it is a case of who you know not what you know, now this isn't always the case but do not underestimate the importance of meeting people and getting yourself out there and making others aware of what you can do. The skills that impresses employers the most when theyre looking at graduates and young people are often quite generic, so enthusiasm, a good knowledge of the industry and someone who has done their research. In these sort of entry level roles industry recruiters arent looking for someone with years and years of experience behind them because they know that this just isn't possible in a student, but if someone can show that theyve made or been involved with independent films in their spare time, read the right trade magazine, looks at the right websites or generally knows what's going within the industry will impress them. These are some of the websites you should be looking at, as well as local and national screen funding ones: Skillset.org a good source of information for events, funding and projects that are out there. Npa.org.uk New Producers Alliance which will give you plenty of information about networking events BFI.org.uk this will give information about where the British film industry is at now.
