Description:
Business meets academia when our head of student services in careers advice meets local businesswoman, Claire Mitchell. Claire gives some good advice on what she wants to see in the CVs she receives from graduates. There are a number of skills that employers will want to see evidence of in your CV and job applications. For the vast majority of job roles and careers, the ability to communicate is high up on the agenda. Communication and listening skills are fundamental in all areas of business, both internally with colleagues and externally with clients or providers. Motivation. Show you are motivated and passionate about the role and having a career in the industry by researching the company and being able to back up why you want to work there. A follow up call or email after sending your CV can also show eagerness and commitment. The information in your CV and extra curricular activities such as charity work can also show motivation. Think of examples of when you have used your initiative, as employers want to recruit people with the ability to think on their feet and be proactive. When writing about your employment history, dont neglect to include skill that you developed in your role alongside the duties and responsibilities that you had.
