Description:
If you havent started a CV yet, start it NOW! You should try and think of your CV as a sale pitch in which youre telling that employer what skills you can bring to that organisation. Employers and recruiters are looking for a professional layout that reflects the position you are applying for at the same time as being clear and concise. For example lots of colours or interesting fonts arent going to do you any favours if youre applying for an accountancy vacancy, but might help if youre applying to be a graphic designer. Employers and recruiters will appreciate a brief opening statement or a personal profile which would be 4 or 5 lines that will explain who you are, what your main skills and qualities are and why you want the job. As a graduate the next thing you should be including is your degree. With graduate recruitment its a given that your experience maybe a little patchy, so you need to show that you at least have the qualifications to back up your personal statement. Dont just talk about your degree and its modules also talk about your life at university. Include the societies or teams you were involved with and the role that you took on in them, so you dont fall into the trap of listing socialising and films as your only interests outside of your degree. Tell the recruiters exactly what you did. If you were the football team captain share that with the world. The CVs that stand out are the ones that are tailored to that specific application and the one that tells the recruiter why you are suited for that roll. Although it may seem like a good days work when youve applied for 15 jobs youll have sent out a bog standard CV to each that wont be memorable. Instead only apply to 2 or 3 jobs a day and tailor your CV for each. The current economic climate means that there is increased competition for the vacancy so remember what weve said and get to the old type writer and knock up a new CV.
