Writing a CV and Cover Letter

Description:

This is Remy and he works for MatchTech Recruitment , a company who specialise in recruiting within the engineering, IT, construction and technical sectors. The first thing Remy has to say is not to be shy, if there's a company you want to work for you should pick up the phone, introduce yourself and have a chat with the recruitment manager. They might not have something for you right away but if you make a good impression and they know who you are, theyre more likely to contact you when a vacancy does arise.

A good CV is a CV that is concise, clear to read and relevant to the position you are applying to. If your CV is well presented, well written and follows these rules you should at the very least get yourself an interview. Remember youre CV should be no longer than 2 pages, with the most relevant information at the top.

When it comes to a covering letter, a good covering letter should be brief and very specific. It should tell the employer who you are, what position you are applying for, why you are applying for this position and why you should be considered for this position. The covering letter is where you should put information like which company you want to work for, which industry you want to work in and where your interests lay. Your covering letter is a chance to show that youve researched the company and that you understand the position you are applying for.

In the current market a good covering letter and CV isnt always enough, you have to make that extra effort and be more proactive. Pick up the phone and find out more about the vacancy. The guys who will get the jobs are the ones who have gone that extra mile and are standing out from the crowd.
